An excellent rust free highly original UK RHD car, 1 long term owner and low mileage.

History of this car

This speciality coupe model replaced the then entry level single headlight 1300 GT Junior in the UK market. As such, it features the full 2000GTV bodyshell with the 2000GTV frontal treatment but with arguably the nicer, smaller, earlier type rear light clusters. The model is also identifiable by the lack of over riders and different boot badging.

The 1600cc engine fitted is virtually the same as 109bhp unit installed in the earlier step front GT Veloce, making 110bhp. The interior is the same as the 2000GTV with the seats with wind up headrests and other appointments; our example is fitted with the optional Campanatura alloy wheels.

It is believed only 150 of this model were imported into the UK market.

Our Alfa Romeo was first registered in June 1976 in Douglas, Isle of Man, to Eurocars, the Alfa importer on the island. It was supplied in silver metallic with a black interior, the same combination it wears today.

Eurocars used this Alfa as their demonstrator, and serviced it twice in 1976 and 77. The long term owner of this car purchased it from Eurocars in 1978 and brought it to the UK mainland when he relocated, repainting it red; a stamp in the service book shows another service at 11,900 miles by Rydale Cars in 1978. Little used due to the owner’s overseas work commitments, there are a raft of old MOTs documenting the mileage until 2001 at 45000 miles when the car was put into long term storage due to a relocation to Dubai.

Purchased in 2016 by the previous owner, a large programme of recommissioning was conducted including a repaint in the original silver, fitting new carpets and headlining, and an in depth mechanical overhaul, details of which are in the history file.

This is therefore a 3 owner car, including the supplying dealer, with a genuine 45,500 miles from new, and with no modifications.

This Bertone has a very straight body with particularly good panel gaps, often a weakness of this model on restored cars, ditto the sill profile is correct. The car looks to have older cavity injection rust proofing looking at the bungs so this might explain the solid nature of the shell.

The good news continues underneath with a rock solid chassis, all the usual trouble spots on these cars seemingly without corrosion or repair. Rare indeed!

The silver paint is in excellent condition with a brilliant shine and no marks or scratches of any kind. The superb Campanatura alloy wheels were powder coated at the time of the repainting and present beautifully.

The bright work is generally good with minimal tarnishing; the glass is also good and security etched with car’s registration number. There are some minor wiper marks on the windscreen.

As part of the recommissioning process conducted by a professional garage, replacement or repair of brakes, clutch, fuel system, electricals, engine/gearbox mounts were performed and a deep engine service conducted, which is detailed in the history file.

An advisory free MOT was issued in August 2021.

Engine bay presentation is spot on with all correct finishes, and the engine itself presents leak free and features an undamaged sump, rare on one of these cars which typically have missing or broken cooling fins.

As part of our pre-sale preparation and to complete the 100% stock nature of this example, we have fitted £800 worth of new OE type Pirelli Cinturato 165 HR14 tyres.

This presents authentically with all original black upholstery and nicely blended replacement OE specification carpets and headlining. The dashboard is uncracked and in excellent condition, as is the lovely Personal wood rim steering wheel. Door cards are mint. A period radio/cassette player is fitted (non functioning).

Good throughout with spare wheel, jack and correct tool kit in place.

It makes a refreshing change nowadays to find a completely standard Bertone coupe. This one is nicer still for being a genuine low mileage and owner car finished in a classic colour scheme. A rare model and with the free revving 1600 motor, a must have for any collector of the marque and this one must represent great value.

Supplied with the original owner’s handbook and service book, two sets of keys and a history file.
